Mail Story is an audio text piece documenting the relationship between two people situated in two different countries over the period of a complete year. Originally made for an exhibition in Gallery St Eustache, Paris titled e-motion, it was played as an ambient piece in the gallery.

The piece uses every email sent in the period of the year between the couple. It is 2:05:53hrs in length and no text has been edited or cut. Three voices read the emails, one for the man, one for the woman and one for the narrator who reads the date, time, etc between each email.

Nether criticising nor approving, the piece concentrates on the complete normality of the event. A couple corresponding by email and keeping their relationship going, Banal, kitsch at times the work is a conceptual one which tries to capture what can’t possibly be and document it without comment.

This work is part of a continuing series of works concerned with topics such as relationships and the proliferation of these on the internet via email, chatrooms, icq etc, communication via a network, text and bodies. Two other works in this series include For those who fear intimacy / for those who fear loneliness and Boy / Girl.
