Real time and networked image generating engines

Networked Image Abstractor

Some work by artist Don Relyea (who also has a weblog well worth a look) which deals with some ‘classic’ new media / net.art ideas of computers automating the construction of art work according to algorithms and here also through a network.

The Networked Image Abstractor (image above) is a simple enough little application for windows:

it downloads an image from the internet and abstracts it using a variety of systemic and procedural processes and then displays a composite and thumbs of steps to get to the composite.

Real Time Contextual Art Generator

The Real Time Contextual Art Generator (images above) is also a simple work (inspired in part by n_Gen) which instead of abstracting a single image creates a composite from several images retrieved through Google image search. Again this is a downloadable windows application howevere there is an early demo version in shockwave here.
